- As part of Turkey Environment Week and World Environment Day, Yemeksepeti announced projects that emphasize its environmental sensitivity. These steps once again demonstrate Yemeksepeti’s commitment to the sustainability of its environmentally conscious business model.
Yemeksepeti, the leading brand of fast commerce in Turkey, once again demonstrates its leadership in environmental sustainability on June 1-7, Turkish Environment Week and June 5, World Environment Day. The company has been implementing many projects within the scope of its carbon emission reduction and offsetting policy since 2020, demonstrating that it has adopted an environmentally friendly business model.
Offsetting carbon emissions for the fourth year in a row
Offsetting its carbon emissions for the fourth time this year, Yemeksepeti took an important step towards minimizing its environmental impact by obtaining 9,700 tons of VCS (Verified Carbon Standard) certified carbon credits. It also achieved a 36% reduction in Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions compared to the previous year, thanks to optimizations and carbon reduction efforts in its operations. This decrease demonstrates Yemeksepeti’s sensitivity to the environment and its commitment to sustainability.
Firm steps towards zero waste target
Yemeksepeti Park, the headquarters building of the company, which has documented its sensitivity in this area by obtaining zero waste certificates in 95% of Yemeksepeti Market warehouses, is also among the facilities with zero waste certificates. Yemeksepeti aims to have zero waste certification in all its offices by the end of the year. Holding the WWF Green Office certificate for Yemeksepeti Park headquarters building, Yemeksepeti contributes to the adoption of environmentally friendly practices in office life and sustainability goals. The steps taken by Yemeksepeti in this regard show its determination to create an environmentally friendly working environment.
Food waste reduced with Smart Weighing System
Thanks to the Smart Weighing System, which Yemeksepeti launched last August in cooperation with Fazla, the food thrown away in the cafeteria every day is measured and food waste is prevented. During the 10-month project period, the amount of daily waste was reduced from 40 kg to 29.8 kg with the actions taken based on the data. This shows that food waste has been reduced by 25% on a daily basis. Thanks to this reduction project, not only food waste was reduced in terms of environmental impact, but also 9 tons of carbon emissions caused by food waste were prevented. Yemeksepeti’s project plays an important role in reducing food waste at source.
Innovative approach with upcycling coffee pulp
Yemeksepeti launched a collaboration with Wastepresso in 2023 in line with its goal of reducing organic waste and creating benefits for the circular economy. By upcycling coffee pulp into sustainable and innovative raw materials and making them reusable, more than 400 kilos of coffee pulp produced by Yemeksepeti was transformed into nearly 1 ton of alternative sustainable raw materials in 7 months of work. Thanks to this transformation, 440 kg of CO2E greenhouse gases were prevented from being emitted into the atmosphere. This amount is equivalent to the carbon footprint of approximately 190 liters of gasoline consumption or 80,193 phone charges.
Yemeksepeti, which contributes to sustainability goals with these environmentally friendly steps and demonstrates that it adopts an environmentally sensitive business model, once again shows its commitment to sustainability during Turkey Environment Week and World Environment Day. Yemeksepeti continues to play a pioneering role in Turkey with its environmentally friendly practices.
