- Yemeksepeti, which has implemented and contributed to numerous sustainability and environmental projects in Turkey in the past, has joined the LFCA, which is composed of European entrepreneurs and investors.
The fast-moving Turkish trading platform Yemeksepeti has become a member of Leaders for Climate Action (LFCA), one of the most important action-oriented global climate societies. LFCA, which unites the will to confront the climate crisis with its own concrete actions and operates in 43 countries, works with the vision of neutralizing the climate of the digital industry worldwide, setting an example for other industries.
The goal of the LFCA (Leaders for Climate Action) community to combine “environmental success with economic success” in the tech industry coincides with the goals of Yemeksepeti, which has carried out numerous projects in the past and in the present to reduce its carbon footprint in Turkey and call the entire ecosystem to environmental awareness together with its users and member restaurants.
Sustainability motivation for startups
Startups that are members of LFCA collaborate with other venture capital networks in the field of sustainability by committing to reduce their environmental footprint.
By asking companies to regularly measure their carbon footprint, implement carbon offset plans, and promote green practices when working with customers and suppliers, the LFCA aims to turn all digital companies into green businesses.
The LFCA, which has reduced 1 million tons of carbon in the last two years and counts more than 1,700 entrepreneurs and more than 1,500 startups worldwide, works as a mission-driven, nonprofit organization to accelerate the transition to a sustainable economy and prevent climate catastrophe.
The green business of Turkey: Yemeksepeti
Yemeksepeti CEO Mert Baki said that in addition to the innovations the company has brought to Turkey in the areas of digitalization and entrepreneurship, Yemeksepeti also has many achievements in the area of sustainability: We are very happy to be part of it. We have carried out many projects on sustainability, which we have always been aware of, and have achieved tangible benefits. For example, thanks to the ‘Keep Green’ button on our ordering screen, we used a total of 926 tons less plastic last year. In collaboration with the Sustainability Academy and the Aegean Forest Foundation, we reforested two forests in the Izmit Derince region to cover the carbon emissions caused by the fuel used by all office and warehouse operations and field teams, and we took an important step in reducing our carbon footprint by expanding delivery using electric motorcycles. We participated in WWF’s Green Office program and conducted awareness training for our employees in collaboration with the Yuvam World Association. I am pleased to say that from now on we will also participate in global sustainability activities
